So, Christmas has come and gone, and I’ve been watching a flurry of posts about people taking down their trees and decorations down.

Here’s the deal.  Not only do I love Christmas, but I also am unapologetically sentimental about it.  A few years ago, I started a new tradition.  Silly as it will seem to many of you, I intentionally don’t take my decorations down until February 1st.  (ish)  Jesus is the reason for the season.  We say that time and time again.

As I processed why I put up the tree and the other pretty decorations, it is to welcome the King of Kings…  So, why do I need to be in such a hurry to take them down?  I want my kids to understand and remember Christmas as a holy experience,  not just pretty decorations (which I do quite a bit of ) and Santa Claus.  (which we don’t do much of!)

One of my favorite things is to sit in our movie room and look at the tree we decorate with all of the Christmas Cards that we receive throughout the year.  (and some New Years cards:-)  Many of them we don’t even receive until right at Christmas…  (I’ll try to post a photo sometime, it really is quite a cool tree!)

So, I decided that we will take the month of January and celebrate the fact that he CAME and is COMING AGAIN.  We aren’t packing up as soon as the world says we should.  We are taking our time and savoring the moment.  I still love my friends who take down as soon as the gifts are unwrapped.  However, I’m NOT sorry, I mean to leave my stuff up!  How about you?  What are your Christmas Decorating traditions?
